It’s been far too long since Christmas … so covering a recent conference at RACV Goldfields Resort presented an opportunity to grab some new HD Video Toys:
For starters – Blackmagicdesign’s new ATEM Television Studio HD.
Blackmagic has been gaining ground in the professional video & broadcast arenas & this switcher with its mix of SDI & HDMI inputs, seemed perfect for our requirements. Of course there aren’t a lot of venues with HD projectors yet – but down-scaling produces far superior results to up-scaling. With a resolution ranging from SD 625i50 PAL 4:3 to HD 1080i50 we pretty much have built in upgrades for the foreseeable future.
Of course having such a switcher demands a Video archiving method to match – HyperDeck Studio Mini is a tiny package that records & playbacks all of the Studio HD Video resolutions and also Ultra HD Video – using SD Cards. We were able to fit 88 minutes of 1080i vision on to a 64GB SanDisk Extreme PRO … and the deck automatically & seamlessly switches to the second card to provide endless record capability.
A client DVD was edited using Adobe Premiere – but I’m keen to see it interact with Avid Media Composer in the near future.
